This painting portrays the moment when everything changed. It was during the height of the pandemic. I had been going through a stage—though brief—where I created only classical portraits, pure realism. But I realized that this was not how I truly saw people; it didn’t make sense to devote all my energy to capturing only their outward appearance.
It was then, in the shower, as I looked at my reflection on the wet wall and carried on a deep conversation with myself, that the question arose: What if, metaphorically, we were colors, and we could see beyond the surface—what colors would we be? What colors would I be? What colors would you be?

Este cuadro retrata el momento en que todo cambió. Era plena pandemia. Venía de una etapa —aunque corta— en la que hacía únicamente retratos clásicos, puro realismo. Pero me di cuenta de que esa no era la manera en que yo veía a las personas; no tenía sentido dedicar toda mi energía a representar únicamente la apariencia.
Fue entonces, en la regadera, mientras me observaba en el reflejo de la pared mojada y sostenía una conversación muy profunda conmigo mismo, cuando surgió la pregunta: ¿Y si, metafóricamente, fuéramos colores y pudiéramos ver más allá de la superficie, qué colores seríamos? ¿Qué colores sería yo? ¿Qué colores serías tú?
