Artist Filippo Giusti was invited by FILC and Gianni Vinciguerra, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Mexico, to create his work Doña Luisa within the framework of the 2021 Coahuila International Book Fair, where Italy was the guest country.

As part of his tribute to Mexican hospitality, his piece Doña Luisa honors a woman who welcomed him and symbolizes the genuine warmth of the Mexican people.

The mural was executed from September 16 to 26, allowing the public to witness the process live. In his speech, Filippo shared that this experience represented “a way of saying thank you” for Mexican warmth, adding that through painting he seeks to go beyond visual representation: “a camera can never paint the soul,” he said.

Doña Luisa pays tribute to the woman who worked at the home of the artist’s partner and who, since his arrival in Mexico, made him feel as if he were in his own home. For Filippo, she represents the warmth and sweetness so characteristic of the Mexican people, that rare ability to make you feel comfortable and truly welcome. Through this piece, he wished both to honor her and, at the same time, to pay tribute to all Mexican women who possess that gift of hospitality, even in a home that is not their own.

In his work, Filippo merges the realism with the abstraction, the individual with the collective, building bridges between his own world and that of those who welcome him.

La FILC recibe a Filippo Giusti como artista invitado

El artista Filippo Giusti fue invitado por la FILC y por Gianni Vinciguerra, director del Instituto Italiano de Cultura en México, a realizar su obra Doña Luisa en el marco de la Feria Internacional del Libro Coahuila 2021, donde Italia fue el país invitado.

Como parte de su homenaje a la hospitalidad mexicana. Su pieza, titulada Doña Luisa, rinde homenaje a una mujer que lo acogió y que simboliza la calidez genuina del pueblo mexicano.

El mural fue ejecutado del 16 al 26 de septiembre, permitiendo al público apreciar el proceso en vivo. En su discurso, Filippo mencionó que, para él, esa vivencia representó “una forma de decir gracias” por la calidez mexicana, y que al plasmar esos sentimientos busca ir más allá de la representación visual: “una cámara nunca te puede pintar el alma”, dijo.

La obra Doña Luisa rinde homenaje a la mujer que trabajaba en la casa de la pareja del artista y que, desde su llegada a México, le hizo sentir como en su propio hogar. Para Filippo, ella representa la calidez y dulzura características del pueblo mexicano, esa capacidad poco común en el mundo de hacerte sentir a gusto y bien recibido. A través de esta pieza, quiso reconocerla a ella y, al mismo tiempo, rendir tributo a todas las mujeres mexicanas que poseen ese don de brindar hospitalidad incluso en una casa que no es la propia.

En su obra, Filippo fusiona el realismo con la abstracción, lo individual con lo colectivo, trazando puentes entre su mundo y el de quienes lo reciben.
